26.11.08 - Denora's future: Anope!

First off: I'm very proud to announce that future Denora development is going to merge back into Anope, what I believe to be the most popular IRC services package on the planet.

Denora partially forked off an early Anope 1.7 development version, porting Thales' features to Anope's core, which means there are many similarities between Anope and Denora code-wise. Unifying both projects will benefit our users: Anope 1.9+ will be more attractive thanks to Denora's statistical features, the userbase will be bigger, and development will be more active. While I will concentrate mainly on the statistical features, core issues which would be shared by both projects can be addressed by developers once only which will provide faster and more reliable development.

How will this work?
Well, basically Denora's features will be integrated into Anope 1.9 as a StatServ module and make use of Anope's new core. This will allow for seamless integration with Anope's services such as NickServ or ChanServ. Of course many existing features will be improved and many new features will be incorporated. Yummy.

So what will happen to Denora?

  • Denora 1.4.x will still be maintained
  • phpDenora2 is in the works and will be maintained until Denora is.
  • phpDenora2 will eventually be forked to phpAnope, to integrate all of Anope 1.9's functionality.

As you can see, the future looks very interesting. Stay tuned!

06.10.08 - Project Management System back up

Our Redmine installation has been brought back online yesterday, with some problematic features now disabled, and seems running quite well... for now. For repository browsing we now use WebSVN, as redmine's implementation, well, sucks really bad and was the cause of all harm.

26.09.08 - Project Management System Out of Service

For quite some months now our Redmine installation has been causing problems. More precisely, it was leaking memory pretty bad, eventually leading the whole server to death. This problem was circumvented by having the service restarted every night. Unfortunatelly in the past days the problems became much more severe, with process lockups and even greater memory leaks. None of the attempts to fix the situation (software updates, switch from mongrel to passenger, configuration tweaks and so on) were successful. So I was forced to shut down Redmine completely last night. I expect a solution to this on Sunday, at the earliest. Of course if the Redmine developers can fix the problem(s), we will continue to use that software. Otherwise I'll have to migrate everything to another solution. Sorry for the disruption. Stay tuned.

10.09.08 - Denora 1.4.2a release for InspIRCd users

Unfortunately we discovered a show-stopper for our growing InspIRCd user base. The faulty code has been there in the past releases as well, but for some reason it appears to have started causing problems only in our recent 1.4.2 release. So if you are running Denora on an InspIRCd network, we really recommend you upgrade. Who is using other ircds should not be worried as there are no other changes in this release. We apologize for the inconvenience.

08.09.08 - Denora 1.4.2 released!

Shortly after releasing version 1.4.1 for Windows, it became clear that the problem was not really solved. It worked fine for some people, it did not for others. But finally we found the actual cause of all evil, reverted the workarounds and fixed the code properly. So Denora 1.4.2 is the first stable release for Windows in over 3 years.

Besides this, this new release contains some interesting bug fixes for everyone: the chanstats exclude system was kind of broken and has been fixed, corrupt tld/ctcp overall counts in flatfiles and corrupt chanstats count issues got fixed as well, plus a series of minor bug fixes make this release a must for all Denora users.

Enjoy this release! As always, please give us feedback through our Bug Tracker.

16.08.08 - Denora 1.4.1 released!

Roughly three months after our long-awaited and thankfully successful new stable release, I'm pleased to present you Denora version 1.4.1.

The most notable changes: Charybdis support actually works now, support for Nefarious and other P10 ircds has been improved, compiling on Windows has been fixed and a potential security issue in string handling has been adressed. Besides this, there are some other minor fixes.

Almost in the last minute I managed to get Denora 1.4.1 working on Windows with SQL enabled. So I rolled out an installer for Windows users. Please have in mind that Denora still needs extensive testing on Windows, so Windows users should consider this a test release. Please give us feedback through our Bug Tracker.

Anyway, since this release contains a (minor) security fix, all existing Denora users are advised to upgrade.

16.05.08 - Denora 1.4.0 released!

Yes. Oh, yes... It's there. Over two years and 9 months after the last stable release, we now finally set the next major version in the wild: Denora 1.4.0! There have been hundreds of changes, improvements and fixes. We believe Denora 1.4 will bring you a more reliable and satisfying experience.

Denora 1.4 comes with support for most of current major ircd stable releases out there, including the popular Unreal 3.2 and the rapidly growing Inspircd 1.1 series. A release for Windows will follow in a couple of weeks, since we need to sort some problems out first. Please read the README and doc/INSTALL files for instructions on how to install/upgrade.

Special thanks go to all the people involved in giving feedback, reporting bugs, and testing. The Denora project is now committed on releasing minor 1.4.x versions as long as improvements are made. We hope you'll enjoy this shiny new release!

By the way, we need C coders! If you are familiar with Anope or Denora, and of course with C coding, we would really appreciate you joining our developer team to help Denora grow faster! Just drop me an email: hal9000 (at) denorastats (dot) org. Thanks!
